Associations, groups and clubs

St Edmunds Club

Since its formation in 1975 St Edmund's Club has striven to reflect the welcome and meeting place that is evident in the church has is its roof. The Club provides suitable facilities for meetings and social gatherings and spiritual, pastoral, educational and community development.

All members of the parish are warmly invited to become members and participate in the activities organised by the club, which is located directly under the Church with entrance gained by the car park. The Club was created by a team of enthusiastic founder members who transformed what had been a dark, dank and eerie crypt into a warm and welcoming facility with its own licensed bar.

Activities

The activities organised are those which gain sufficient support from the membership but include the provision of refreshments after 10.00 Mass on Sunday; light-hearted fun quizzes, more serious quizzes, bingo, darts and cribbage teams, karaoke nights, horse races, casino nights and children's parties. Facilities are also used by various other groups either regularly or occasionally such as the Over 60s Club, St Edmunds Ladies Club, Mother and Toddlers Group. The holding of bazaars and jumble sales as well as a variety of parish sponsored organisations. It is also available for private parties - adults and children, christenings, wedding receptions, etc.

Parent & Toddler Group

The Group meets in the Club Friday mornings 09.15-10.45 (term time only).

This is an ideal opportunity for toddlers to meet and play together under the watchful eye of their parents, whilst the parents themselves have a chance to make friends over a cup of tea.

There is also an opportunity for parents with toddlers to attend Mass together to help the children share in Mass which is planned especially for them. The Masses will be house Masses during the middle of the day and all with pre school age children are welcome. Details will be published in the weekly newsletter.

Association for the Propagation of the Faith

The APF is a world wide missionary organisation enables the Pope to help Bishops in missionary areas to run his diocese, pay for his catechists and run his seminaries where sufficient funds are not available from other sources.

In this country the APF is sponsored by the Mill Hill Fathers, our Hierarchy's own Missionary Society, and they receive a part of the contributions to carry on their work.

In St Edmund's parish we have over 100 members, and nine promoters who deliver the magazines to members four times a year and collect the donations and empty the collecting boxes one or more times a year as requested. Members also pray for the missions. There are no meetings for this group, the commitment is financial and through prayer.
