Society of St Vincent de Paul - St Edmund's Conference

The SVP is a world-wide lay organisation of Christian men and women. A group has been hard at work in our parish for over 20 years.

St Edmund's Conference meets fortnightly in the Presbytery. We commence with a spiritual reading and then discuss our work, which at present involves visiting the elderly who are alone, visits to some patients who are in hospital, financial assistance to those in need and arranging transport for some who cannot get to Mass.

Our Central Council meets quarterly when current issues are dealt with, namely safeguarding and reports from areas the SVP is twinned with, such as India, Grenada and two in Guyana.

Our membership of this Conference has increased from 8 last year to 15, which is promising. Once the CRB checks have been finalised our new members can deal with referrals to those who need visits or help in other ways. Last year 159 visits were made.

Our work is confidential. If more information is required or if anyone is interested in joining us then please contact the Parish Office.
