Ministry of Music

St Edmund's Choir
The choir has been singing at the Sunday morning Mass for over 25 years and they do an excellent job. The members regularly lead the music for the 10.00 Mass on the first, third and fifth Sundays of the month, and also for special Masses during the year.

Music Group
The Music Group leads the music at the 10.00 Mass on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. They rehearse on the preceding Friday evening from 18.00-19.00. This group comprises singers and musicians with a variety of instruments, of all ages and abilities. New members are always welcome. No experience necessary!

For further information about the Choir or Music Group view the website or contact the parish office.

The Saturday Vigil Choir
Who we are
We are a welcoming choir of all ages with organ, keyboard and instruments who provide the weekly music for the 6pm Saturday Vigil Mass and welcome new members.

An enjoyable, relaxing outlet
Singing is enjoyable, especially in a building like St Edmunds. It provides relief from stress, a sense of belonging and wellbeing, the chance to meet other singers and to make and present a special offering to God for His glory.

To assist and enable
The choir assists and enables the congregation by leading the melody and by giving them encouragement and the confidence to enjoy their own singing, perhaps in a new hymn tune or a setting of the Mass.

A skill and a prayer
Learning and using a skill to the glory of God is a prayer ('He who sings prays twice' wrote St Augustine). Music enhances the liturgy by raising hearts and minds to God. The practices show you how improve to your skill. You don't have to sing on your own.

Our purpose
- We enable the assembly to take a full part in the worship e.g. by introducing new hymns or supporting the singing of a Mass setting.
- We hope through music to raise the hearts and minds both of ourselves and of fellow worshippers to God in prayer.
- We provide a means of involving the members more fully in the preparation, conduct and ownership of the worship.
- At the practices we try to develop, in our use of a number of practice aids, and in the worship itself, the skill in music we may have been given, for the glory of God.

Our Music
The music we sing and play comes from all ages and traditions of the Catholic Church, both ancient and modern.
